Happy New Year!

We are back in the swing of our activities this week.  We've been enjoying the warm winter by the time our afternoon recess rolls around.  We can use some Clorox wipe donations to our class.  We are low and use them all the time to disinfect our desks and community areas.  We're working hard to stay healthy!  We can also use donations to our class store.  Your kiddos are so wonderful, they have earned lots of earned Beagle Bucks to spend.  I'm having a hard time keeping things stocked for them to purchase.  Any donations would be very much appreciated.  Thank you so much!

We'll combine this week with the week we come back (since they are both shorter weeks) and test on compound words etc., Jan. 5th.
Happy Holidays!
See you in 2018!

As a Second Grade, we have set a goal that every student pass off their addition facts for the 36 Club by the holiday break.  This is sneaking up on us December 21st.  We are so proud of the 6 students who have already met this goal.  Please take a minute to consider the last time you worked with your child on their math facts.  Your child has a set of paper flashcards in the pouch inside their homework binder.  If you are unable to find them, your child may receive another set from me using 3 of their Beagle Bucks.  Students are encouraged to practice these facts at lease twice per week.  Since so many are still working on this goal, we encourage you to work with your child every day for a few minutes until they are able to pass these off at school.  We usually test on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but we'll be testing every day until break.  There is a note that gives all the details regarding the 36 Club behind the math tab inside your child's binder.  Thank you so much for your help with this important milestone!  This goal is crucial to your child's future math success!

Thank you for helping your child dress appropriately for the weather.  Many students try to go outside in the cold without their coats.  We are working to keep our kids safely bundled for recess times.  I have put a new link here on the blog.  It is under the important websites heading and then writing practice.  This link will take you to our District website and give you the information regarding the three kinds of writing.  Many of our students need more one to one help with writing than we can provide at school.  Feel free to help your child practice from home as well.  We have depleted our class incentive store prizes.  We would appreciate any help you may be able to provide with donations.  Gently used prizes are always fun, especially when you may be going thru your boxes of holiday decorations.  Perhaps you'll consider donating items you family isn't using anymore.
Have a great week!

It was a pleasure meeting with you at our parent conference.  It was wonderful to see our students share their goals with you and celebrate all their hard work!  I'm so lucky to be your child's second grade teacher!  I love them and enjoy working together every day! Thank you so much for working with your child at home on the goals we set at our conference.

Have a great week!

The kids are excited to lead their conference this week.  They have worked hard on their student booklets and have set great goals to present to you.  We are looking forward to celebrating!   We will be conferencing in the kiva just outside of our classroom.
The kids really enjoy the weekly opportunity they get to spend their hard earned Beagle Bucks at our class incentive store.  We are low on our prizes.  Here is a list of items they really enjoy:  dollar store items, white elephants, treats, school supplies, holiday items, art supplies, novelty rewards, and craft items. Thank you in advance for any donations you might be able to contribute.   We are also in need of Clorox Wipes.
Spelling this week will be Thursday again, due to our shortened week.  Be aware I am keeping all the high-frequency word lists we have done so far on Spelling City.  This is so your child can continue to study these words for our cumulative test throughout the year.
Our students school wide set goals for behavior during Golden Fields intervention schedules.  I'm excited our class earned their first reward activity by filling in our gold bar chart with 50 points from our intervention teachers.  Our class voted on a movie reward complete with treats and bringing blankets etc.  This Wed., students may bring a blanket/small sleeping bag, to lie on as well as a stuffed animal of their choice.  We think our backpacks can serve as pillows so there isn't too much to bring.  Mrs. Cannon will be spoiling us with her cotton candy machine and Mrs. Grubb is spoiling us with popcorn and some bottle water.   We'll enjoy watching Mayflower Mouse.  I'm so proud of our class for earning their first reward activity.  We voted to earn a class camp out reward for our next 50 point goal.

I'm looking forward to meeting with you this week.  See you soon!
