Tomorrow is our class pet day!  We look forward to those of you who are bringing over animals for us to see.  It is not necessary to check into the office, just meet us outside on the playground.  We'll be out approximately 9:10.  This Friday will be our last cumulative spelling test.   We are working on H.F. words from lessons 16 - 30.    This Friday is also our last class store.  We would love any donations you might be able to send, to make this last class store special. We are excited to finish our second grade year over the next few weeks.  We are holding our baby chicks and caring for them this week.  We'll also begin our class yearbook. Watch for a note to come home regarding our farewell to 2nd grade picnic.  We'll need your permission portion cut off and returned to school.
Have a great week and a wonderful Memorial Day!

Happy Mother's Day yesterday to all our moms out there!  We hope you had a wonderful day and that your magazines were a highlight to your celebration!  The kids worked so hard on them!  I hope they'll be a keeper for you to treasure.
I'd like to give a big shout-out to our field trip volunteers from last Thursday!  Thank you Mrs. Akagi, Mr. Nazier, Mrs. Clayton, and Mrs. Grubb for coming to help supervise our students!  Also, a big thank you to our aide Mrs. Moses!  We had such a great time touring the museum and having a picnic/playtime at the park!
This week is my favorite week of second grade.  This afternoon, I'll be picking up our chick eggs!!!  We are hatching chicks in our class this week.  I've prepared two incubators we'll hatch our chicks in and a fish tank to watch our chicks grow.  This is such a fun culminating activity to our study of animals and habitats this year in science.  If you'd like to send a small donation to help cover the cost of our eggs and chick hatching materials as well as our nesting and food, we are accepting donations to cover the cost of these materials.  Feel free to seal your donation in sandwich baggie or envelope labeled "chick donation".  Thanks so much!  We can also use any newspaper you might have to layer in the bottom of our tank below the nesting material.

Our class earned their intervention behavior reward again today!  On Friday, we will be having a stuffed animal/movie event.  Feel free to send your child with a small treat to eat during the movie.

Thanks in advance for all you do to help us!  We couldn't do it without your support!

Happy Monday!  Happy May!

I am amazed how fast this first year of Golden Fields has flown by.  I am excited to plan many fun activities to end our year together, one of which is our field trip this Thursday.  We are looking forward to touring the Natural History Museum and our picnic at the park!  Thank you for having your child wear good walking shoes for our field trip.  It will be great if your child's lunch from home is in a disposable bag labeled with their name.  This will help your child have an easy time identifying their lunch in our bin as well as not having to worry about getting their lunch box/bag back to school after the picnic is over.  Tuesday, we will participate in the last Dibels testing for our year.
We completed the last spelling pattern lesson #30 last week.  For the remaining weeks of school, spelling will be a review of all the high-frequency words for second grade.  I have left all of these words on Spelling City for review.  They are also listed in your child's homework binder, behind the spelling tab, on the yellow sheets.  Hopefully you've been checking off each word this year, as your child mastered reading and spelling it.  Mastery of these basic words will help your child so much with their reading and writing skills for third grade.  We will give high-frequency cumulative tests on Friday May 11th, May 18th, and May 25th.  These three tests will be the last spelling quizzes to count on your child's report card.   Students are excited to become high-frequency heroes!

Thank you so much for all your support from home to make these last weeks productive and resulting in achievement of the goals we set for your child at our last parent conference.

Have a wonderful week!

Thank you for all your support with our Character Charade.  It was such a fun event and the students although a bit nervous, overcame their jitters and were all so awesome!
Our Bike Rodeo is tomorrow, May 1st.  Hopefully your child brought you a note regarding this event.  Students may bring a bike or scooter, and must have a helmet.  Also, it will be important for students not to wear flip flops during the bike rodeo.  South Jordan Police sponsor this event for us to help promote bike safety for our students.  All bikes and scooters must be parked outside in the bike rack during school, however, students may bring their helmets inside.  When dropping off bikes, Mr. Hansen has given us permission to have you pull to the curb by the bike rack (on the north/west side) to drop off your bike with your student then pull through.  Otherwise, you may park in a parking spot and unload to the sidewalk/crosswalk.  Please do not drop off bikes/scooters in the pull-through lanes at the front of the school.  Thank you.
Color Fun Run Registration ENDS TOMORROW MAY 1st .  Golden Fields can not accept any new registration afterwards, this includes no new registrations the day of the run.  Sign up at https://sites.google.com/jordandistrict.org/gladiatorfunrun/home.  This fundraiser is put on by the Golden Fields School Community Council. Proceeds of the event will be used to create a school safety program. Student safety is of the upmost importance, and we would like to implement a program that will equip children with knowledge and skills to avoid dangers within our community as well as the world abroad. The program will include internet safety, physical defense, conflict resolution skills, and much more!

Today we launched our flexible seating classroom!  We are so excited!  This week, we'll be practicing our class expectations for using flexible seating to keep us safe, respectful, and responsible.  I am so proud of our class.  They have definitely earned this privilege and I'm happy to help reward them with this opportunity.  What a great way to end our year together!
Don't forget our Character Charade is next week.  We are looking forward to the transformation of our students into favorite book characters.  We've also sent a note regarding our upcoming field trip.  Please review this permission note and send it in by Friday.
Have a wonderful week!

Welcome Back!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break!
We'll jump back into the swing of things this week.
We still have lots of difficulty with tardies in the morning.  Thanks so much for all you can do to plan to have your kiddos here on time.  It really helps them start the day on the right foot.  :-)  We are hard at work on the goals we set at parent conference.  As always, your partnership from home makes all the difference!  Watch for a disclosure note on our Character Charade to come home today.  Please send the reply back by Friday!
Have a super week!
